Ani Difranco sings "Overlap" with audience member

At a gig in London Ani Difranco asked the audience for requests and a gentleman by the name of Declan Bennett responded with "Overlap". Difranco pulled him up on stage they sang and played together. It is a joyous performance. I smiled through it all. I am happy for Bennett. I'm sure he'll never forget the experience.

"Overlap" by Ani Difranco at London's Union Chapel January 10th, 2012 - Accompanied by audience member Declan Bennett

Once upon a time Difranco didn't seem to like when people sang too much. Everyone sings at her shows but even on one of her live dvds she remakred that she's, "not really a this land is your land kind of writer." She said that, "Woodie did that first and best." She of course was speaking of Woodie Guthrie. Now, she tells the audience that she likes "back up". The fact that she was actually asking the audience for requests is a profound shit. "Overlap" is a song that she once upon a time sang often at the end of her shows. She'd always say, "Now we're going to leave you with a little lullaby".
