Medication as Jewelry

Tonight I discovered fun jewelry pieces from the Whimsy Fix Jewelry Boutique. The creator of Whimsy Fix is stationed in New Zealand and describes her jewelry as vintage, neo-victorian, steampunk jewelry.

The below necklace pieces are Secret Sweetheart Capsule Necklaces.

The pill strung on a chain presents the capsule as something valuable and suggests that whatever is inside is surely sacred. The chain is delicate and rests gently upon the neck. This image is what sold it for mite.

I have a fondness for medication art. We all need medicine, whether it be laughter, vitamins, heart pills or head pills. Love, lessons, growth, pain, Tylenol, Prozac.

I am a person who not only has struggled with depression since childhood, but has benefited from medication. I am also a person who works within the field of mental health and psychiatry. I have witness the wonders and harms of meds, the horror of Big Pharma and the bureaucracy of the mental health industry.

I am a supporter of medication for the right reasons, I am a supporter for proper diagnosis and follow up treatment as well as anti-stigma advocate. So, needless to say, these little silly decorative pills are bit more symbolic. Who knew rinky dink jewelry could be so cool.

The necklaces come in various colors and each pill has a blank note inside meant for a written message for yourself or someone else.

Purty pills..

Each necklace is $12.00 NZD which translates to $9.32 USD. To purchase visit the etsy site, here.
