PETA Will Be Launching a Porn Website: PETA you help our animals but harm our women

I have written about People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals (PETA)'s advertisement practices on many occasions within this blog. While PETA does good work in the name of animal rights, they have also become a thorn in my side.

Before I get into the meat of this post (no pun intended..seriously) let me link you to a few of my previous PETA posts. PETA has show a lack of creativity time and time again. It appears that they have a "if you can't beat em' join em" take on their campaigns. PETA goes along with the well proven "sex sells" theory.

In July 2009, I posted about some of the almost naked posters used in PETA campaigns. They also use trailers that suggest vegetarianism is sexy. Video of women practically having sex with veggies which suggests proof that veggie or vegan way of life is the way to go. To read my post PETA and Patriarchy click here.

Later in 2009, I posted about the PETA "Save the Whales" poster. The poster has an image of a heavy woman on a beach. The poster encourages individuals to "lose the blubber" and "go vegetarian." Sure losing weight can be healthy for some but referring to heavy people as whales? Really? To read my post, PETA Disappoints Once Again, click here.

Again in 2009, I posted about PETA's protest of the Westminster Kennel Club Dog Show. The members protesting by Madison Square Garden were dressed in Ku Klux Klan garments. PETA stated that they were opposed to the American Kennel Club promoting pure breeding which is unhealthy for dogs. PETA suggested that the Kennel's desire to pure breed is harmful just as the KKK trying to create a master race. To read my post PETA Goes Too Far....Again, click here.

In 2010 I posted about a PETA poster that features a woman holding a limping hot dog. The line reads, "Eating meat got you down? Fight impotence. Go vegetarian!" So, in addition to telling women that they need to join PETA so they can look the way straight men want them to, now PETA is playing to male ego by suggesting that women won't want them if they aren't vegetarian or vegan. I've written other PETA related posts but the above mentioned are some of the highlights.

PETA's latest endeavor is to launch a pornography website. According to International Business Times, the porn site will feature X rated images in addition to galleries and videos that offer insight into the mistreatment of animals.

According to CBS News, PETA spokeswoman Lindsay Rajt explains the thought behind the website when she told The Huffington Post, "We live in a 24 hour news cycle world, and we learn the racy things we do are sometimes the most effective way that we can reach particular individuals."

PETA is no stranger to porn. In the past PETA has recruited porn stars such as Jenna Jameson, Sasha Gray, and Ron Jeremy to pose for ad campaigns. Now with the launch of the porn site PETA is delving deeper into the sex sells angle that they apparently refuse to lose grip of.

I have no idea as to whether PETA's porn site will feature strictly hetero porn or will include porn catered to a variety of sexual orientations. Regardless, PETA thus far has catered to the straight world. I am not encouraging exploitation of any gender or any sexual orientation, however, I can't help but notice that PETA's unoriginality is not only sexist and racist but heterosexist.

While there is certainly a large sum of people opposing PETA's tactics, the lot doesn't compare to the amount of people who are drawn to the campaign. Even members of PETA who have grown a conscience will have no voice. Sex sells and and souls are sold for revenue.
