Report the "Reasons When It's Acceptable To Punch A Woman In The Face" on facebook

Just recently I posted about a facebook group known as "Killing a Hooker So You Don't Have To." Now there is a facebook group called "Reasons When Its Acceptable To Punch A Woman In The Face."

The page attempts to excuse itself by noting this disclaimer..

For all the haters out there this is off- colour humor....

The term off-color humor (also known as dirty jokes) is an Americanism used to describe jokes, prose, poems, black comedy, blue comedy and skits that deal with topics that are considered to be in poor taste or overly vulgar by the prevailing morality of a culture. Most commonly labeled as "off-color" are acts concerned with sex, a particular ethnic group, or gender. Other off-color topics include violence, particularly domestic abuse; excessive swearing or profanity; "toilet humor"; national superiority or inferiority, dead baby jokes, pedophilic content, and any other topics generally considered impolite or indecent. Generally, the point of off-color humor is to induce laughter by evoking a feeling of shock and surprise in the comedian's audience. In this way, off-color humor is related to other forms of postmodern humor, such as the anti-joke.

I personally believe that if one thinks that violence and sexism can be humorous they themselves are sexist.

The group lists 59 instances in which it is supposedly acceptable to hit a woman. The list includes, when a woman is on her period, when she takes off her makeup, refuses a threesome, when she tells a man to stop pushing her head down when giving oral sex, when she asks for oral sex to be performed on her, being a feminist and many more.

According to the group the only reason to not hit a woman in the face is "when she's pregnant.....punch her in the stomach".

The creators of this page want women like me to understand that the site is just a joke. I do not believe that sexism is funny or can be funny as so many suffer from it. I believe that men suffer from sexism however I think for some men the benefits often outweigh the harms.

If any of you choose to look up the facebook group you'll see that there are men and women alike who relish the site and applaud it's "genius." Frustrated men and women who want to seem cool or like "one of the guys" (be they gay or straight) are praising the site for it's "off color humor."

For those of you who agree that the site is just an extention of patriarchy and is only refinforcing it, you can do your part by reporting the site to facebook. If you look up the page and scroll to the bottom of the page, on the left hand side is a link where you can report the site as offensive.
