Joe Carr is Lovin' Revolution



Joe Carr is a fellow former Evergreen student and I am happy to see that he's still making music and art and is standing up for social justice.

Joe Carr's bio:

Lovinrevolution leads violence-prevention support groups for K-12 boys and counsels youth on probation while advocating for juvenile justice reform. Hes the Volunteer Coordinator for UpLift Austin, and a regular volunteer with the Theatre Action Project, PODER, the Cipher Hip-Hop Project, and S.O.U.L Sessions youth break-dance program. Hes an active member of the Mobilizing Men Task Force and is a co-founder and lead organizer of the annual Men Rally for Change. He moved to Austin in September, 2008 to work full-time as a mentor/counselor for Communities in Schools.

Lovinrevolution graduated from the Evergreen State College in Olympia, WA in 2004 with a BA in Social Movement Studies and Performing Arts. There he also organized with Earth First, Food Bombs, and Arts in Activism. He spent 2003-2006 traveling between Palestine, Iraq, and the U.S. supporting nonviolent resistance to occupation.

He is gifted in all of the performing arts including music, theatre, dance, and public speaking. He has his own musical style, highly influenced by hip-hop, R&B, rock and Reggae. Hes self-produced and released two albums and a mix-tape of his politically conscious music and poetry. Plant the Olive Branch in 2003, "Resistance to Empire" in 2006, & the lovinrevolution mix-tape in 2008. He organized and completed three national tours using his music to educate and mobilize people to act for change.

Lovinrevolution practices sustainable living techniques including indoor, outdoor, and winter organic gardening, canning, tincture-making, beer brewing, bicycle maintenance, knitting, and drives a truck he converted to run on used vegetable oil. He also practices daily meditation and yoga, and helped found the Wake Up Austin Youth Sangha. He continues to write and perform Hip-Hop music, mentor young artists, and organize hip-hop benefit shows for local activist organizations.
