Sexism In the Media

"The emotional, sexual, and psychological stereotyping of females beings when the doctor says, 'It's a girl.'"
------------Rep. Shirley Chisholm - The first African American woman elected to Congress
1972 presidential candidate

"Any woman who chooses to behave like a full human being should be warned that the armies of the status quo will treat her as something of a dirty joke...She will need her sisterhood."
---------Glorio Steinem - Founder of Ms. Magazine and the Women's Media Center

Do these quotes seem dismal? Too cynical? Well watch this...

Sexism Sells - But We're Not Buying It
(Posted by Youtube user RCSpicuglia in 2008)

I first viewed this in 2008 when it was posted. It ran during the 2008 presidential campaign. While part of the video focuses on Hilary Clinton it does touch upon women in general.

On May 23, 2008 WomensMediaCenter.com launched a petition based on this video. I signed it. The petition is now closed but if you go to http://www.womensmediacenter.com/sexism_sells.html you will find information about how to fight sexism in the media.
