Dick Masterson and his gimmick

I saw this guy on the Dr. Phil show a year or so ago. I found his presentation to be so over the top that I was unable to believe that he truly believes everything he says. The clip doesn't feature the part of the show where Dr. Phil confronts Dick Masterson about his book that he is trying to promote. The book is entitled "Men Are Better Than Women" and he has a website by the same name.

(barnesandnoble.com)

It may seem strange that I am posting a video clip of this man and posting a photo of his book but I am not doing so to give this man positive credit.

Back when this particular episode of the Dr. Phil show aired, my thoughts were that this man came up with a gimmick and has learned to play the role of an extreme chauvinist with a straight face. However, even IF (because after all I truly don't know how this man feels about women) this man does not believe in many of the blatant sexist comments he makes, that obviously doesn't mean he is innocent of all charges. He is promoting hate (not to mention fear) and I think that over time he may come to believe his own bull.

I was curious as to whether Dick Masterson really had much of an audience. I decided to visit Amazon.com and look up his book. I read some of the customer reviews and learned that there are many who love the work of this man.

Here are three reviews from amazon.com..

Dick Masterson's Men are Better than Women is the book that Fight Club should've been. It shoots you in the eyes with the Truth about yourself.
If you are a woman thinking about giving this book to a man who you want to be more manly, Click the --->Add to Cart Button.
If you are a woman thinking about reading this book, stop reading....NOW.
Dick gives you a no-holds-barred view of the lies and deceptions that have been steadily put over your eyes over the years by the feminist movement (Because they are jealous. Penis envy nothing! They have man envy, or menvy!)
Dick helps you remember WHY you are better than women and HOW you are better than women with hillariously logic question and answers such as asking, How many famous women are there and What are they famous for?
If it's a woman, she's famous for having her hand out (Teresa), being married to a man (Hillary), being more manly only because she is completely off her rocker (Joan of Arc).
He slaps you in the face with your own manliness over and over until you realize, "$#it! I am a MAN!!!! And PROUD of it!!!"

I was very depressed after two of my girlfriend broke up with me. I walked into Barnes and Nobles just to spend my time. I was just feeling so sad. Then I found this book and within a few minutes I was laughing out loud. If you are man, seriously , get this book. This will make you laugh out loud. Yes this book might be offensive to women and feminist. But it is a great survival guide book for the recently divorced guy or your nerdy male friend who just got dumped by his girlfriend. We guys are too sensitive to women. But women don't appreciate sensitivity. They want a strong man who can lead them. This book will also teach you to be a man. This is the first amazon book review I am writing. This is the best book I have ever read that helped me get over my long time depression of getting dumped by two girlfriends. Get it man, and buy another for your buddy, you won't regret it.

funny, but wears off after a while, August 5, 2008
It's got some funny parts, mixed in with a lot of bland ranting. Overall, I'd say it's worth a read for sentences like "women couldn't do math even if it tasted like chocolate". But I wouldn't put this guy on the same level as Maddox and the others.

There are indeed reviewers that expressed their disgust for the book but I found it so unfortunate that so many felt enlightened. I often came across the comment that women and feminists were the groups that would most likely be offended by the book. Well, it is true that women aren't always feminist. It is an unfortunate truth that truly disappoints me. But what disappoints me further is that these men seem to view women and feminists as "THOSE" people. As if we are "the other" or "the enemy"..."those people over THERE". I don't think that the feminist view point is really so far fetched. But this is just another example of how so many people are afraid, turned off, confused and even angered by the simple notion of equality. Yes, us feminists sure are wacky.

Another common theme amongst the comments was the the book just simply wasn't funny enough. Some readers wanted more humor. Not less sexism..more of it!

Back when the Dr. Phil show aired I checked out this man's website to see how invested he is. It really does seem to be his life.

There is a section on Dick's website called "Dick's Classy Broads" where women voluntarily send in photos of their breasts with website name written in sharpie across them. Even though Dick warns that women are not welcome to view his website it is obvious he wants their attention. I wonder if Dick feels that he "wins" almost anyway you look at it. If some hate his views and products most likely they will tell someone else and that person will tell someone else. Pretty soon he gets more and more publicity and somewhere along the line the news will reach those who are in favor of his views. So, perhaps this blog is actually assisting Dick and his cause? Perhaps? It is a risk I am taking as I hope the stronger sentiment will be that his work is foolish.

When I first learned of this man I didn't say anything to anyone about him as he was so over the top that I really couldn't take him seriously enough to even really be upset with him. But now I really am concerned with the trail that follows him.

A shirt from his website. I am assuming since Dick Masterson is sexist that this pink shirt is meant for women. I wonder how many women actually purchased this shirt. I really began to think of reason as to why a woman might want to wear this shirt. If some women think this is humorous...why so? And why so much that they would spend money? Do some women think this will make them fit in with certain types of men? Is the idea that this shirt will this garner respect? All, I can say to any woman who feels they will be applauded by men for sporting this shirt....girl, they probably are laughing behing your back at the fact that you are so naive.

Proof that Dick wants women to view his website despite his warnings against it.

I do not know if it is true but supposedly Dick Masterson is in a relationship with a woman. I can't imagine that he treats her as poorly as he treats other women. Whoever this woman is I imagine she has a "well, he's not talking about me!" attitude towards the whole thing.

Evidently Dick devotes much time to his blogs where he spews endless chauvenistic view points which basically state that men are superior to women in every which way and all women truly want is to be put in their place. Again, this is all truly ridiculous and non-sensical but I have a feeling he feeds off of the negative responses he receives by some. I think he enjoys playing the villian.
